No Silencer (JIVEE) Team Review RD2L PST-SUN Season 18

Quick Data for Scouting Captains: 1. None of these players will make for a bad team environment. 2. Don’t listen to Aug when he tells you to pick legion commander pos1. • Big Aug!: Solid player that you can build a team environment around. Excels in heroes with solo kill potential, don’t make Aug your 4 protect 1 carry. Relatively active in coms. • 403 / Four Zero Three: Strong pos 4 weaker pos 5. Does best as a roaming support on any play making hero. Somewhat active in coms. • E H: I’ve only played with E H in the offlane position and he does best as offlane that wants to kill people. Quiet in game, active in drafts. • Oz: My most value pickup was OZ at 2.2k. Very nice guy that I expect to see at high 2k or 3k sometime in 2020. Does best with strong laners. Somewhat quiet in coms unless the opposing team has flamed him or his team recently, if that happens you have already lost (Shout out to ‘Road to 0-16’ who flamed us and then lost so hard they disbanded afterwards). • JIVEE (ME): Too much ability draft and boosted by playing too much party Dota with Wicked_SiCK, who is under ranked as a result.
I’d like to start off by saying that my ability to analyze this team is hindered by my inability to successfully draft for it. The Kunkka Windranger Problem / AKA Unga-bunga: I think this team is much better than the record it got; I just couldn’t figure out our playstyle quickly enough. We were dominant every time we picked Kunkka or Windranger and were weak without them. This is not because our players were weak on other heroes, but rather that Kunkka and Windranger were conducive to playstyles that allowed us to play as a team and win (my Kunkka win rate in pubs is not impressive but it was dominant both times I took it mid and it got banned in games after that). If we could find more than 4 heroes to fill this Kunkka Windranger role, I feel like this team would have made playoffs at least. Most of the team’s issues were centered around catch, Aug wants to play heroes with solo kill potential, E H wants heroes with kill potential, 403 wants playmakers and I prefer heroes with a high technical skill cap. This causes the issue where our positions 1-4 are all “playmaking heroes” so Sand King is stunning someone here, Gyro is BKB running at someone else, and I’m probably still teleporting in while all of this happens. When everyone wants to be the person making plays, no one makes good plays as we are all focused on our own goals rather than adapting to what has already happened. I feel like while they aren’t necessarily the best heroes for the players I drafted, picking something like KOTL would have been good because it gives us a strong focal point for out fight that we were constantly lacking. In addition, I needed to draft more simple heroes like Ogre Magi, Abaddon, or Spirit Breaker for the same reason that KOTL would be good, it gives us a simple starting point for our fights to focus around. Team Shot Calling Issues: Jumping in too heavily into engagements that are not good for us was also another issue for this team. Oftentimes we would see one or two heroes ahead of the enemy team and we would jump on them, even if we didn’t have any follow-up nearby. Other times we would break smoke and still not jump on enemies within range allowing the opposing team time to teleport in and help. I blame myself mostly for the lack of clear shot calling as I wasn’t comfortable with a group of players, I haven’t played with much before. When the opposing team is smoking as 5 and we don’t want to fight them I would sometimes call out “I don’t think we should fight now” instead of what I call to a group I’m comfortable with. “Back to [ward / tower / high ground], x hero push top,” is the kind of clear shot calling that this team was lacking in. I feel like most of our fights were not active decisions, but more based off of whether it was on our shrine (we took lots of 3v5 losses on shrine because it gave us false confidence) or we really wanted to quickly kill the enemy carry and got tangled. Sometimes EH or 403 would see a good opening, but myself or Aug would be 300 gold away from an important item and wouldn’t teleport to help, I needed to be clearer about when we are absolutely not looking to fight. Individual Player Advice: Big Aug!: Aug is better than I am at Dota so its difficult to give advice, here we go anyways. I feel like the biggest issue you had this season was popping your BKB and getting nothing done with it. While we the rest of the team was usually too slow initiating, I feel like you ended up forcing fights we weren’t ready for too often. I feel like focusing on the heroes your teammates initiate on will allow you to save your cooldowns for when you need them. 403: I’ve played a lot of Dota with 403 so there is not much I can say that hasn’t already been said. Focus more on the macro game elements, especially while you are behind, it should allow you to control the map more and cut down on deaths. E H: As an offlane player you will need to be the frontline more often. If your team is behind you and you have the cooldowns, go in hard. Jumping in first will give you the vision advantage and makes space between your carry and the opponents. Building auras and being in the front is the key for offlane currently, I just feel like you need more confidence in your movements, don’t be afraid to call out what you are doing to your team to make sure they follow up. Oz: Mostly keep working on improving lane posture, ensuring that your carry gets ranged creeps and the opponents carry does not. Also, when you feel like you have nothing to do think about what objectives your team wants next or what objective you don’t want to lose and place wards to help those goals. If you are uncertain about the objective you want, just ask, your teammates might need to figure it out as well. Also, all of the underscores and dashes in your name make it impossible to format. JIVEE (ME): Most of what I said were team issues I consider my issue from a captaining perspective. As a player I need to know when to farm and when to fight, my macro decision making is lacking. In addition, I need to not randomly lose focus and feed; when I have nothing to do I need to play safe. I don’t think I’m playing next season as I’m expecting to be busy with work and university, but I will probably be back for spring and summer. Don't have many comments on the player draft as I didn't know what I was doing and also didn't really enjoy the whole player drafting process. Suggested League Changes: Make a clear info page (or update the welcome page on Discord regularly) for PST-SUN schedule and division specific rules, as a new captain a lot of stuff was unclear. In addition, make this rule the only way to get stand-ins. “When a team is missing a player and requires a stand-in, they must formally request one in their divisions stand-in channel in discord, listing the dotabuff of their missing player and the dotabuff of the player they would like to use as a stand-in, they must @ their division admin and opposing captain for that week as well.” Its quite annoying to have a stand-in authorized via dm’s and then told about the 3 stand-in’s right before a game. All stand-ins should be publicly declared.
Thanks to everyone who runs this league, I play in another league that has prizes and RD2L runs at least 3-4x as smooth. Shout-out to Predict for completely destroying me in draft with one of my favorite strategies. Also, let it be known that muted Aug! has a 100% winrate, should have named the team global silence instead.

Lock-Down Essentials (A Mega Thread nobody asked for)

The ever increasing lock-down inflicted by COVID-19, is taking a toll mentally on all of us. The majority of us confine ourselves in our rooms, indulged in the lights of machines. However, at the end of the day, we find ourselves swapping between a couple of applications (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit among others).
I've been trying to get the best out of the self-isolation period and this right here is the mega thread that I have created in order to help you guys with some of the "Lock-down Essentials". Please add anything you can to this thread.
Time Table: Most of our body clocks have gone out of control. We have become irregular with our eat and sleep schedule. Most people including myself have lost track of the date and I've personally become very careless with my eating patterns. The best way to keep yourself mentally sound is by organizing your day. Even if setting a time table seems over the top, I do not imply we create a strict military like schedule. Mentally setting a time to sleep, eat, rest and wake up could be a very good start. Cleaning the room, showering and working out are among the best practices you can regulate. A fresh body and a clean environment will allow you to embark on a journey of productivity.
Exercise: I play a ton of games and I always end up with a sore back & a heavy head. Working out in the morning and stretching your body when you could, can help with blood circulation. It also enhances mental capabilities and keeps the body tired enough so you could have a deep 6-8 hours of sleep. Here are some of the popular methods I can suggest you to try (Time can differ according to convenience):

Morning Workout Noon Stretching Evening Stretching
Push-ups, Crunches, Pull-ups Arm/Wrist/Hand stretches Arm/Wrist/Hand stretches
Skipping, Jogging, Walking Leg/Knee/Thigh stretches Leg/Knee/Thigh stretches

I get asked a lot of questions regarding things to do when stuck at home. Here are some of the things I do:
  1. Work from Home - I spend 2+ hours each day working to improve my company. I use a two monitor setup for work with a faint music playing in the background. I usually communicate with possible clients over phone and video.
  2. Game - I game almost everyday. It keeps me fresh and active. I am currently playing eFootball PES 2020 (A friend gifted it to me just before lock-down. Bless him) and Outer Worlds. I game on a PC.
  3. Music - My next door neighbor is an excellent guitar player. We meet in the evenings and jam to some of our favorite songs. I have a recording setup where I usually do covers and occasionally write my own songs. I have also been learning Harmonium. We currently have a guitar, a harmonium and a cajon at home which takes up a chunk of my time.
  4. Watch Parties - We started having watch parties on Discord. We watch movies, football matches (Bundesliga started yayyy), sing songs and more which is always a relief. To joke around and talk with friends is always amazing.
  5. Subscriptions - I currently use two subscription services - Netflix and Apple Music. I'm currently watching "WWII in Color".
  6. News - Watching some news with the old man is always nice.
This mega thread is a answer to what IN MY OPINION can be done in a lock-down. Some of the things you may agree to, some you may not. Let's hope we are cooperative and suggest each other positive things in every way possible rather than bringing each other down.
In times of turmoil, let's be with each other, let us share the best of us and allow each other to be the best version of ourselves. Specially with the politics going on, youths need to come together and look after one another.
I hope this thread has been helpful to you.
